I started out as a trainee solicitor at a Top 20 UK law firm before embarking on a career in legal recruitment.
Initially, I joined a legal recruitment specialist focusing purely on solicitor-level recruitment across the North West legal market before joining a leading Private Equity-backed Professional services Recruitment Group where I launched & led their legal recruitment offering. I then exited the Group to pursue my long term ambition of running an independently-owned recruitment consultancy; Aurelius legal.

Qualified as a solicitor having trained at a Top 20 UK law firm.

Made the move into legal recruitment and joined a legal recruitment specialist focusing on solicitor level recruitment.

Launched & led the legal recruitment arm of a Private Equity-backed professional services recruitment group with three sub-divisions focusing on (Legal support roles, Residential Conveyancing & Private Client/Commercial solicitor-level recruitment); and
Exited the group to launch an independently owned legal recruitment consultancy, Aurelius legal.

Legal recruitment focus

Solicitors of all levels into commercial and private client legal disciplines (contentious and non-contentious).

Rugby union/general fitness, stoicism, good restaurants/whisky and horology (just looking sadly!)

Favourite book

(If audiobooks can count) Relentless by Tim Grover, if not, then ‘Ego is the Enemy’ by Ryan Holiday.

Born and raised in sunny Manchester, I studied at the Manchester Grammar School and graduated from the University of Nottingham with a 2.1 BSc (Hons) in Economics. I was on the graduate scheme at Rolls-Royce Plc, prior to entering the recruitment world.

Fun fact: I’m a 6 ft 3 vegetarian, who doesn’t like vegetables.

I typically work with candidates on an exclusive basis, with an emphasis on face to face meetings and quality of recruitment consultancy, over quantity of candidates.

Happy to speak/meet at convenient hours: before 8am and after 6.30pm!

Studied at the Manchester Grammar School

Graduated from the University of Nottingham with a 2.1 BSc (Hons) in Economics.

On graduation, I secured the only graduate position within the Commercial Purchasing department at Rolls-Royce Plc. This was my first exposure to the world of Commercial Contracts & IP law!

Whilst reading about James Caan’s ventures in the recruitment field, I also came to realise that I enjoyed interacting with Rolls-Royce’s in-house lawyers more than drafting and reviewing 40-page supplier contracts…

Having built up a strong referral network and client-base through successfully assisting candidates, from NQ, through to Associate and Partner-level, we decided the time was right to launch Aurelius Legal; a wholly independently-owned recruitment consultancy.

We take pride in finding the right firm for each candidate and supporting them through the process (from the 1st interview, through to handling salary-negotiations, guiding them through the resignation conversation, and not disappearing off the face of the earth once they’ve started their new role like a mere transaction!)…

In contrast to simply “spraying and praying” with multiple CVs in blatant mass-mailers and playing the recruitment lottery to see what lands(!)

We don’t operate on a long list of arbitrary ‘KPIs’ to hit a ‘monthly target’ – we focus on assisting with long-term, meaningful career-moves, as opposed to treating our candidates as just a means to an end.

This ensures a consistent level of quality is maintained; meeting with each candidate in person to understand their needs, experience and disposition, so we can represent them with credibility and accuracy to our law firm clients = a win/win outcome for all parties!
